The Best Solo Work of The Beatles

The Beatles were a huge phenomenon of the 1960s.  They came to America in 1964.  They officially broke up in 1970.  In reality though, they stopped recording together in 1969.  The last session with all 4 Beatles working together as a unit was in August of that year.  What I find most interesting about The Beatles is their sustainability.  Generation after Generation finds this band.  Having been born in 1965, the first musical experiences I can remember were in the early 1970s.   At that point in time, The Beatles were trying to establish themselves on their own, as solo artists.   As the 1970s wore on, Paul McCartney clearly stood out.  He had massive success on his own and with Wings.   The other 3 guys weren't nearly as relevant or successful as McCartney.     It wasn't until the late 1970s that I discovered The Beatles as a unit.  My sister started buying their albums.  The first two she brought home were compilation albums of their best work, "The Beatles 1962-1966&q

The Most Beautiful Actress of Each Decade

For whatever reason, this is what I find myself thinking about today.   I'm in the mood to write so I figured I'd put this article together.   Who is the most beautiful actress of each decade?    Certainly not an easy topic.  I thought I would refine it a bit.  Each actress would have to be of some renown.  No  one hit wonders.  She must be relatively well known.    And the beauty part of it would be just that.  In each particular decade - who was the actress that was the most beautiful?  See what I mean?  This has nothing to do with acting ability or any particular performance.  Just her beauty in that decade.  I think that simplifies it a bit.  So, I've rolled it around in my head for an hour or so and this is what I have come up with: 1950s - Sophia Loren 1960s- Sharon Tate 1970s - Raquel Welch 1980s- Nastassja Kinski 1990s- Angelina Jolie 2000s- Amy Adams 2010s- Margot Robbie I feel comfortable with this list but it wouldn't surprise me if I missed

Songs you Secretly Love

I am sitting here thinking about music as usual.  I feel like writing but I can't seem to come up with a topic to write about.  Well, as I have sat here a song popped into my head, "Groovy Kind of Love"  by Phil Collins.  This is a song I love and always have.   My next thought was "Wow, I doubt anyone knows I love that song".     So I thought, now that is an interesting topic.  Songs a person loves but no one else knows it.  Songs that even your best friend wouldn't know you love.  I'm thinking quite a few people probably have the same kinds of songs in their lives.   I always enjoy the opinions and posts of others so I hope people will join in and add to the discussion.  It's very simple - as the title says "Songs you Secretly Love".   Here are some of mine: 1. "Groovy Kind of Love"   Phil Collins 2.  "Afternoon Delight"  Starland Vocal Band 3. "Sailing"  Christopher Cross 4. "Up, Up and Away&quo

Favorite Guitar Solos

Are you the type of person that has music playing in your head at all times?  Can you a hear song in your mind just as well as if it was playing out loud?  I can.  Drives me nuts sometimes but it's just the way my brain functions.  When I open my eyes each morning - I never know what will be playing in my head.    This morning it was "Heartbreaker" by Led Zeppelin.  It wasn't the beginning of the song - it was the guitar solo (which is about midway through) .    I thought, man- excellent solo by Jimmy Page.   I started thinking about guitar solos that have really stuck out to me.  Some songs can go from good to great due to an outstanding guitar solo.  I thought of other songs in which the guitar solo literally makes the song.   So, Ive decided to list some of my fave guitar solos this morning.  Mind you, this doesn't include songs that are nothing but a guitar solo (an example being "Eruption" from Van Halen).   It has to be a regular song that contains

The 5 Funniest Movies of all Time

A friend of mine from the Google + Movies community named Annette Rodgers recently posted a clip from a 1979 movie.  I hadn't seen it in years.  After watching the clip it started coming back to me how funny the film was.  This was a movie that made me laugh hysterically.  It got me thinking - what other films made me laugh that hard?   And laugh that often?   Sometimes a movie will have a few good bits that are mildly funny. But there aren't too many that will have you laughing hard all the way through.  I've given it some thought and have come up with the 5 films that to me are the funniest of all time.  I'll discuss each one a bit as well.  These films are in no special order, just the 5 funniest movies I could think of.   So, let's get started: 1. "Life of Brian" This was the movie that Annette Rodgers posted.  Released in 1979 and created by Monty Python.  It satirizes the Jesus Christ story.   That may not sound like a funny concept but trust me

The Ten Greatest Bands of all Time (updated version)

On November 24 of 2017 I published an article called "The Ten Greatest Bands of all Time".   I had thought about it for a good while and came up with this list: 1. Led Zeppelin 2. The Beatles 3. The Rolling Stones 4. The Who 5. Pink Floyd 6. Rush 7. Nirvana 8. Journey 9. Foreigner 10. Motley Crue After completing the list, I had a feeling I may have missed a band or two.  I always encourage feedback to anything I write about because I really enjoy the opinions of other people.   Fortunately,  I received plenty of feedback on this one.  It turned out I was right - I did miss a few bands.  So, I gave it some more thought and now I would like to update the list.  So, here we go - my updated version of the ten greatest bands of all time. 1. Led Zeppelin 2. The Beatles 3. The Rolling Stones 4. The Who 5. Pink Floyd 6. Queen 7. Aerosmith 8. Rush 9. The Eagles 10. Nirvana I think this is a good list and I feel very comfortable with it.  However, as always,
