All music, no vocals songs

A friend of mine and I were discussing this.   We tried to think in terms of just songs.  It couldn't be a TV theme, movie soundtrack. or some other incidental music.  These had to be songs that were released as regular records or CD's.    The other main catch being very simple - instrumental songs, no vocals whatsoever.    We came up with quite a few.    I listened to them,  considered them and ultimately decided only 5 of them really stand out.  And they are:


1. "Frankenstein" - Edgar Winter Group

2. "Moby Dick" - Led Zeppelin

3. "Pick up the Pieces" - Average White Band

4. "Rise" - Herb Alpert

5. "Feels so Good"- Chuck Mangione


We also had "Intruder" by Van Halen, "Green Onions" by Booker T and the MGs, "Space Race" by Billy Preston amongst others.  I feel like we are missing quite a few though so I hope people will join in and add some songs to this topic....

Ben Simmons and James Harden Trade.......Who Won?

 To me it's obvious who won.  But let's look at the details first.  To me, at the absolute forefront is age.  Ben Simmons is a whopping 7 years younger than James Harden.  For a lot of NBA players, 7 years is a career.   The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers have proven the importance of age in the NBA.  The Cavs, with all of their 1st, 2nd and 3rd year players sit at 34-21 (as I write this).  The Lakers, full of superstar 30 something players, are 26-30.  In today's NBA, youth wins.  I'll take a 7 years younger All-Star everyday over an aging, veteran superstar.   The next issue is fit.  I think this is a win for both teams.  Philadelphia wants to win right now.  They want to maximize Joel Embiid's prime.  If you can keep Harden on the court, he's terrific.  Plus he's a shooter, exactly what the 76ers needed.  Brooklyn, I think, needed some defense.  The Nets have plenty of shooters....

The Best Music of the 1960s, Minus the British Invasion Bands

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and we started talking about the music of the 1960s.   My friend is a couple of years older than me.   He was born in 1963, I was born in 1965.  Neither one of us was really aware  of what was going on musically in the 1960s because we were so young.   However we could look back from the vantage point of today  and decide which music came out of that decade still sounds great today.    Well, as I'm sure you can imagine - the music that kept coming up in our conversation was The Beatles.   And it is true, the music The Beatles created in the 1960s (not all of it - but a good portion of it)  still holds up today.    Then we started talking about the Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin.   All of them great bands that started their careers in the 1960s.   I could see my friend and I had similar taste.  We both thought t...

Songs you Secretly Love

I am sitting here thinking about music as usual.  I feel like writing but I can't seem to come up with a topic to write about.  Well, as I have sat here a song popped into my head, "Groovy Kind of Love"  by Phil Collins.  This is a song I love and always have.   My next thought was "Wow, I doubt anyone knows I love that song".     So I thought, now that is an interesting topic.  Songs a person loves but no one else knows it.  Songs that even your best friend wouldn't know you love.  I'm thinking quite a few people probably have the same kinds of songs in their lives.   I always enjoy the opinions and posts of others so I hope people will join in and add to the discussion.  It's very simple - as the title says "Songs you Secretly Love".   Here are some of mine: 1.
