Songs You Absolutely Hate

I have been thinking of something to write about today.  This topic popped into my head early this morning.  As the day has wore on I have gone from thinking it's an insane topic to thinking it's an interesting topic.   I'm sure everyone has heard songs they hate.  You know what I mean - the type of song that makes you cringe.  Makes your skin crawl.   Makes you feel like you're in the company of someone you can't stand, lol.  But seriously though - there are some songs that do make me feel that way.   I've been rolling it around in my head for a couple of hours and several have come to mind.  I'm using songs that I believe are relatively well known.  So, let's get started:

1. "You Can Call Me Al" - Paul Simon

This was a big departure for Paul Simon.  A new kind of music for him.  In fact, it was critically acclaimed.  Personally I couldn't stand it thirty years ago and I still hate it today.

2. "Total Eclipse of the Heart"- Bonnie Tyler

This is the most over dramatic, over produced, over sung and over emotional song in history.  It still makes me cringe to this day.

3. "Bette Davis Eyes" - Kim Carnes

This is a dumb song and I always hated it.   I think this one may just be a personal thing because a lot of people like it.  Kim Carnes voice gets on my nerves big time.

4. "Gone" - NSync

To really appreciate how bad this one is you have to watch the video as well as listen to the song.  It'll make your skin crawl.

5. "You're Beautiful" - James Blunt

Typically I enjoy a man singing a song for a woman.  "When a Man Loves a Woman" comes to mind.  Blunt simply doesn't have the vocal chops. He sounds embarrassing to me.

6. "Disco Duck"  Rick Dees

Need I say more on this one????

7. "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I won't do That)" - Meat Loaf

See the aforementioned "Total Eclipse of the Heart"

8. "I'm Steppin' Out" - John Lennon

The problem with this one is the man who sings it.  I'm a huge Lennon and Beatles fan.   This particular song was released posthumously so we will never know if Lennon would have let it out.   As it stands, it did come out 4 years after he was killed and it's embarrassingly bad.

Ben Simmons and James Harden Trade.......Who Won?

 To me it's obvious who won.  But let's look at the details first.  To me, at the absolute forefront is age.  Ben Simmons is a whopping 7 years younger than James Harden.  For a lot of NBA players, 7 years is a career.   The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers have proven the importance of age in the NBA.  The Cavs, with all of their 1st, 2nd and 3rd year players sit at 34-21 (as I write this).  The Lakers, full of superstar 30 something players, are 26-30.  In today's NBA, youth wins.  I'll take a 7 years younger All-Star everyday over an aging, veteran superstar.   The next issue is fit.  I think this is a win for both teams.  Philadelphia wants to win right now.  They want to maximize Joel Embiid's prime.  If you can keep Harden on the court, he's terrific.  Plus he's a shooter, exactly what the 76ers needed.  Brooklyn, I think, needed some defense.  The Nets have plenty of shooters....

The Best Music of the 1960s, Minus the British Invasion Bands

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and we started talking about the music of the 1960s.   My friend is a couple of years older than me.   He was born in 1963, I was born in 1965.  Neither one of us was really aware  of what was going on musically in the 1960s because we were so young.   However we could look back from the vantage point of today  and decide which music came out of that decade still sounds great today.    Well, as I'm sure you can imagine - the music that kept coming up in our conversation was The Beatles.   And it is true, the music The Beatles created in the 1960s (not all of it - but a good portion of it)  still holds up today.    Then we started talking about the Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin.   All of them great bands that started their careers in the 1960s.   I could see my friend and I had similar taste.  We both thought t...

2022-23 NBA Champions.......

     Provided the man pictured above (Kevin Durant) can stay healthy, I believe The Phoenix Suns will win the title this year. It's a big if though.  As I type this, it looks like he will miss the rest of the regular season.  If he can come back strong for the playoffs, Phoenix will be ok. If not, my money is on The Milwaukee Bucks to win the 2022-23 NBA Championship.
