Top Ten Best Films of the 2000s

Hard to believe but another decade is coming to a close.  Amazing how time flies in this life.   With time comes age, and with age, comes appreciation of past glories.  Personally, I'm not much for remembering the past or trying to relive previous experiences.   I prefer to live in the here and now.  However, what I do like to do as time passes is make judgments on movies and music.   This is always interesting to me.  It's interesting because as time passes, you have changed.  You're not the same person you were in the 2000s.    However, the music and films of that decade have remained exactly the same.     But since you have changed - the way you hear the music and see the movies will also change.  Keeping that thought in mind I feel enough time has passed to look back to the decade of the 2000s.   Which films of that decade still look great today?   I have come up with a top ten and will provide a mini description of each movie.  Enjoy!

1.  "Sophie Scholl:  The Final Days"
This is a little known European film that chronicles the experiences of "The White Rose".   The acting is fantastic, but more importantly, I appreciate the historical accuracy of this movie.   The makers of this movie insisted on telling this story to such a high degree of accuracy that the original transcripts of interrogations were used verbatim.    It's an amazing story.

2. "Downfall"
Another little known European film.  Here we view the downfall of Adolf Hitler.  Once again, it's completely historically accurate.  It also features what I feel is one of the best acting performances of all time - Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler.

3.  "Doubt"
A great story with great acting.  Everyone who starred in this film was nominated for an Academy Award.

4. "Training Day"
Denzel Washington won a Best Actor Oscar for this one.  Well deserved.

5. "The Aviator"
I'm one the few that likes this movie better than the more decorated "The Departed" (both directed by Martin Scorcese).  I think Leonardo DiCaprio's performance as Howard Hughes is the best work of his career.

6. "Million Dollar Baby"
This one cleaned up at the 2005 Academy Awards ceremony.  No arguments from me - it was outstanding.

7. "No Country for Old Men"
Another one that cleaned up at the Oscars.  I think Javier Bardem's performance (which won him a best supporting actor academy award) is the best supporting actor performance of the entire decade.

8. "The Pianist"
Some great work by Roman Polanski.  Adrien Brody wins a Best Actor Oscar for this one.

9. "There Will Be Blood"
Another great story. Daniel Day-Lewis also gets a well deserved Academy Award.

10. "The Station Agent"
This is a little know American movie by Tom McCarthy.  McCarthy ended up getting worldwide recognition for "Spotlight".  I thought this one was better.

And there you have it, the 10 best movies of the 2000s.   Any other opinions are welcome...
